The 3 Ring has a variety of mouthpieces and a choice of rein options. Because the mouthpiece is in effect a loose ring as the reins are used the mouthpiece has to slide all the way around to where the bit is attached to the bridle before the bit leverage part of the action is activated. And because the cheek has to go to nearly horizontal the mouthpiece is severely pulled downwards into the horse’s lower jaw. The bit is normally used with just one rein attached to either of the small bottom rings to achieve poll pressure. Often better used with leather curb strap on the back to balance out the pressures. Also know by a variety of names, Continental Gag, Dutch Gag and bubble bit.
