Morris and Nolan English Leather Bib Martingale

Used to help control the horses head position and prevents getting caught in or biting the martingale straps.

• The Morris and Nolan English Leather Bib Martingale works by applying pressure via the reins to the bit.
• When the horse raises its head above a controllable point, it encourages the head downwards.
• Helps stop the horse raising the head and stops the reins coming over the head, often used in steeplechasing.
• The key feature is the “bib” — a solid piece of leather or material that joins the two neck/chest straps.
• Used with Rein Stops they prevent the rings from sliding forward on to the rein buckles.

• Rubber Martingale Stops are also used at the ‘junction’ between the neckstrap and the bib.

Fitting a martingale:

• Loop the neck strap comfortably around the horse’s neck (about four fingers’ space).
• Thread the girth through the bottom loop.
• Pass the reins through the martingale rings so they reach the bit, ensuring the rings don’t restrict head movement and with rein stops always used for safety.
• A properly fitted martingale only engages when the horse raises its head too high, providing gentle pressure, not constant restraint.
