There are two types of grit:

Insoluble – Birds swallow hard materials like flint. The grit stays in the gizzard and helps grind food through strong muscular action.

Soluble – Birds eat materials like oyster shell for calcium. Their bodies digest it to support strong eggshell production.

All laying hens need a constant supply of both types of grit.
